General features:
Short itinerary to discover Colloro, inside the Val Grande National Park and starting / arrival point of the Classic Trip of Val Grande. The itinerary touches a territory symbol of the millennia of struggle for the survival of a mountain community, where verticality becomes the foundation of an economy linked to seasonal movements and terracing works.
The route:
Starting from the railway station, follow Corso Marconi until you cross Via Sempione and go towards Piazza della Chiesa Parrocchiale di Santa Maria Assunta. Cross the center of Premosello, with beautiful stately homes, and then take the ancient mule track that connect to the hamlet of Colloro, which stands on a beautiful sunny terrace, passing through terraced fields once cultivated with rye. Along the way there are 12 information boards that describe the life of a mountain community with images and short texts. Colloro preserves some ancient rural buildings dating back to 1500 and 1600: some are only ruins, many have been carefully recovered in a harmonious way. In front of the Church of San Gottardo the mule track passes next to the chapel with a fresco of the Madonna di Re, in front of which the alpigiani and the animals passed before going up to the summer pastures. Return to Premosello following a ring route continuing along the mule track which descends cutting the hairpin bends of the paved road.
